Thanks to the past few years of technological advancements in the medical field, many surgical procedures have become extraordinarily routine and nearly commonplace. At Johnston Memorial Hospital, our use of the latest surgical techniques have not precluded our commitment to compassionate, personal care.
Today, the time to recover following surgery has never been safer or shorter. In many cases, you may be able to have your surgery as an outpatient procedure and return home the same day. Following your surgery, you will be relocated to our Outpatient Surgery Department, where you will be cared for during a brief recovery period that usually lasts no more than six hours.
For inpatients, your procedure will take place in one of the operating rooms located in our surgical suite. The experience will begin with the administration of anesthesia medications by an anesthesiologist or a specially trained nurse anesthetist. While our skilled surgeons perform your operation, your visitors can relax comfortably in our waiting room and receive continual updates on your progress. Following surgery, you’ll be closely monitored by both physicians and our nursing staff in our Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) as you awaken from anesthesia, and then transported to your hospital room or special care unit for further observation.
